Macy's celebrates Black History Month: Event Recap

The live models did their thing and were so beautiful!
I had the opportunity of attending the Macy's Black History Month event and Panel discussion with Designers June Ambrose and Johnetta Boone. The conversation centered around the Soul Era Fashion (from the 60s and the 70s) and its influence on today's fashion, the essence of style and what it takes to develop one's own personal style.
Ms Sheila Coates, Host of the event and creator of Be Your Own Brand
When asked what comes to mind when they think of Black Style, June Ambrose's response was "We're unapologetic for being ourselves. We are bold and Fashion risk takers". Johnetta Boone said "BODY because everything we put on is shaped differently on us, and the colors reflect differently due to our skin complexion."
The ladies also shared words of wisdom and so much knowledge with us about their job and gave us advice about following our dreams. The main things they insisted on overall were hard work and integrity.
"Don't fall in-like with your job, fall in love with what you do" June Ambrose
"We have to bind together; work together because that's the only way we can grow."
I am still on cloud 9 about meeting these 2 amazing women!
When asked about what celebrity represents the Soul Era best in today's fashion world the ladies answered Solange, Janelle Monae, and Ledisi. They do it so well and effortlessly because they have embraced it and it has become a part of who they are.
We also got to enjoy some live Soul music, Very nice touch

This was the last stop of this month long tour and I'm glad I was a part of it. I really enjoyed myself at the event and learned so much from June and Johnetta! They inspired all of us in attendance to work harder on what it is we want to be and not to limit our art to just one dimension.
Stay tuned for more posts soon and Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend guys and dream on and keep pushing forward!
 Love,
Dolly K
